But, problems with the first half of the book aside, I found the second half to be much, much better. Daredevil uncovers a vast conspiracy by a group known as the Sons of the Serpent (who are basically the Klan) to infiltrate government agencies and spread their message of white nationalism and hate throughout these institutions. In light of recent events, this actually feels even more relevant than it likely did at the time of publication. However, I couldn't help but feel like the real-life advancement of white nationalism is much scarier and harder to fight than the one represented here, which seems to assume that if the American people only KNEW about the racists in government they would stop them, whereas in real life that doesn't seem to be the case. The reason why I gave this volume a four star rating was because I felt that the story tend to jump all over the place, mainly during the first half of the volume. I actually felt that the second half of the volume was much more superior as we had a straight forward story than we did in the first half of the volume. Also, I will admit that because I did not read “Shadowland” before I dived into this volume, I was a bit confused about how everyone found out about Matt’s secret or how Matt went out of control during “Shadowland.” So I’m posting the same review for both Vol. 1 & 2 and calling it a day. I’ll also get credit for 2 books on the challenge. That’s what you get for not having the correct editions, Goodreads! In this story Daredevil and Spider-Man team up with Frank Castle to obtain the Omega Drive which everyone is after. Over the course of the story there is a question of whether Daredevil is losing his mind or if his mental instability which causes him to lose his firm is influenced by something else.

I wanted to like this more than I did. However, I started liking it more towards the end of the volume...I think it's when I got adjusted to this Daredevil not being flying fists and fury. The art also seems a little odd, like it's going for 1970s retro yet with day-glo colours. I haven't read enough DD to have a good handle on things, I only read a few of the Brubaker volumes, and I'm always wanting to get more into Daredevil.Cowsill "2010s" in Gilbert (2012), p. 327: "Written by Mark Waid and drawn by Paul Azaceta, the two-part opening mixed the real-world drama of the economic meltdown with some Spidey action."
